Part of your recovery from breast cancer involves restoring your physical appearance. Elizabeth's was opened in 1983 by a breast cancer survivor who wanted to celebrate her recovery by sharing what she had learned with other women. In the past 40 years Elizabeth's has been dedicated to the care and comfort of the post mastectomy client. Currently run by Rachael, and Kathy (Elizabeth's daughter), we are committed to providing as easy and pleasant an experience as possible.

How many times do I hear this statement in a day, a week, a month ….? I have learned so much from women over the 30 years I have been serving at Elizabeth’s and there is a sadly common theme - one that runs the spectrum from frugality to outright neglect.

Some ladies wear their breast prosthesis and bras for special occasions only, when they want to look especially nice. What’s wrong with this? At first blush it seems like a reasonable way to get the longest life out of your breast form and bras however; when we wear something infrequently, we never really get use to it.

Why do I need to make an appointment? You are welcome to stop by Elizabeth’s anytime you like however; if you prefer not to wait and/or are coming from a distance we recommend an appointment, so a specific time is reserved for you.

Post-Op Care...because we care!

As a longstanding service in our community, (2023 will mark our 40th year in business), Elizabeth’s will provide the necessary comfort items to our clients free of charge. One pillow and one camisole per lady – Thank you.

Post-Op pillows

Many ladies have found these post-op ‘heart’ pillows comforting after their operation, as a cushion keeping the seatbelt away from your surgery on the way home and as a support for your arm as you heal. Elizabeth’s has these available for both unilateral (one side) and bilateral (left & right) surgeries. We make them in-house from many different cotton prints. We offer one to every lady who visits before surgery.

Post-Op camisole

A post-op camisole will help with both your comfort and drain management after surgery. Removable drain pouches attached to a soft elastic under-bust band will house your drain bulb(s), keep them safe and out of the way while your drain is in (approximately 10 days–2 weeks). Easy access makes it simple to attend to your drains without getting undressed. These need to be fit to you for the appropriate support, that is why Elizabeth’s offers one camisole to every woman who visits before surgery.

Popular Questions

Have a question? We’re here to help.

  • I just found out I require breast surgery, how can you help me?

You are welcome to come / call Elizabeth’s for support and information at any time.  Many women feel reassured to know what resources are available to them after surgery; for this reason we encourage you to get as much information as you want – when you want it!  There is no charge to come to / call Elizabeth’s.

  • How long will my fitting take? When can I have my prosthesis?

We schedule one hour for first fittings.  Elizabeth’s stocks the top three manufacturers in post surgical bras, breast prostheses and post mastectomy swimwear.  After 40 years serving the mastectomy client we have built an excellent relationship with all our providers and have two day delivery on anything we do not have in stock.  From 32AA to 52 DDD, we have something for everyone.

  • How soon can I be fitted for my prosthesis?

Traditionally you will be ready 4-8 weeks after surgery.  You will want to be comfortable with the pressure of a well fitting bra.  That being said – we have many tools available to restore your appearance temporarily before this;  perhaps to attend an important social commitment that was made before your surgery and you still want to attend.

  • How do I pay for all this?

Every woman in Ontario with a valid health card qualifies for partial funding of their breast prosthesis through the Assistive Devices Program at the Ministry of Health. Elizabeth’s will provide and complete all the necessary paperwork for you. Many women have extended health care coverage through an employer – we will also make the necessary calls, download the necessary paperwork and help you complete these forms as well. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Debit as methods of payment.

  • Do I need an appointment?

Appointments allow us to schedule the flow of traffic on busy days, that way we can give every client the time and attention she deserves.  Walk ins are always welcome, but you may have to wait while we finish with one client before we can serve you.

  • My breasts were never the same size; can you help me appear symmetrical again?

There are many partial breast prostheses designed to fill out shallow areas, or partial shells that can add the difference you need to appear even – come and see what’s available – you will be pleasantly surprised.

  • How discreet is Elizabeth’s?

We are tucked away in an office building with no store front – no one will know you require our services when you enter the building.  You could be visiting the dentist, lawyer, insurance co. etc whom we share the building with.  We have two private fitting rooms as well as a reception area.

  • Can my girlfriend, mother, sister who has not had breast surgery be fitted for a bra or swimsuit at Elizabeth’s?

Yes – we have more and more clients come to us so they can be properly fitted and as comfortable as possible – especially ladies who have a hard time finding a comfortable bra! All our swimwear has a supportive bra built into the suit – lovely for the full figured lady who wants a swimsuit with support.
